Warner said he did not return because he could not have
Head coach Kyle Shanahan provided a few injury updates after the San Francisco 49ers win over the New England Patriots.
Shanahan said, “I know Fred tried to go, but he didn’t feel like he could.” All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner did return after halftime after leaving late in the second quarter.
Warner spoke after the game and was asked if he was held out for precautionary reasons in the second half. Here was his answer:
“I mean, I would have been out there if I could have been. We’ll see as we get more information on it. It was all based off the feel. It takes a lot for me to tap out. If I could have been out there, I would have been. We’ll get more information as we go with scans and all that. I feel good right now.”
Warner didn’t sound too concerned. He did bring up an interesting tidbit. During the ball meetings, Brandon Staley said if you score on defense, then you have about a 100 percent chance of winning the game.
As for defensive tackle Jordan Elliott, Shanahan said, “I don’t think it was an ACL or anything. But it just had some swelling and stuff, so he couldn’t go.”
Rookie wide receiver Jacob Cowing did not return with a shoulder injury. There were no updates on Cowing. George Kittle did return after being questionable with a rib injury that came after his touchdown reception.
