With Brock Purdy’s stunning rise in the NFL, the San Francisco 49ers quarterback has become one of the media’s favorite targets. Since his debut against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2022, Purdy has been sensational. He has a win-loss record of 24-7 in his NFL career and is coming off a Super Bowl appearance in his second year. Yet, questions have been raised about his eliteness as a quarterback.
Purdy was a guest on “The Rich Eisen Show” on Tuesday. When asked if he pays attention to the narratives surrounding him and if he feels he’s answered them, the 49ers quarterback spoke in detail on how he shuts down the outside noise.
“I don’t buy into the world’s narrative of who I am and who I am as a quarterback and all that kind of stuff,” Purdy said. “For me, what matters most is having the trust and respect of the guys in this organization in this building, my teammates, my coaches.”
Purdy added:

“Everyone who runs this organization, they see me on the day to day basis of how I work, how I prepare and and going out and winning games, that’s all that matters.”
The 49ers QB explained that for him winning games is of utmost importance. He emphasized his focus on earning the trust and respect of his teammates every day.
While Brock Purdy tries to avoid all the outside noise coming in, he does have his own news sources and is well aware of what’s being talked about in the media. Speaking on the same show, the San Francisco 49ers QB said that Deebo Samuel was the guy to feed him what’s going on. Purdy even recalled a particular incident from last season, which went viral, which Samuel had informed him about.
“Last year, the backwards hat dilemma. I don’t know, if you remember or if you’ve heard about that,” Purdy said. “So Deebo came up to me and he’s like, ‘Dude, they’re saying you can’t be a franchise quarterback if you’re wearing your hat backwards.’ I’m like, ‘Dang bro, they’re saying that?’
“So I got my news sources in the locker room with some of the guys, but it’s all we laugh about it and we know what’s real and, and what matters the most.”
Purdy was referring to Colin Cowherd, who took issue with the 49ers QB last season. The Fox Sports host’s notorious manifesto was that his franchise quarterback should not be wearing the hat backward during the Wednesday press conference.
Purdy will have the opportunity to once again prove his critics wrong, when the 49ers take on Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets on Sept. 9 at Levi’s Stadium on Monday Night Football.
