On Friday night, the Murphy High School Panthers took on the Spanish Fort Toros in a home conference game. Unfortunately for them, Murhpy, their home crown, would go home disappointed as they lost the game 6-44.
However, this punt attempt from their own one-yard line was easily the talk of the game. The ball only went about five yards and bounced back to a Spanish Fort defender who took the ball in the touchdown. Officially, it became a one-yard punt return touchdown against the Panthers.
Of course, it might be one of the rarest sights in football, and everyone on social media loved it and was genuinely confused.
“A one yard punt return touchdown. It’s those unexpected plays that make football so exciting,” said one comment about the play from Murphy.
‘I was at this game last night and the punting was this bad all night,” said another.

“Punter isn’t 14 or even 12 yards back. Should be at the back of the endzone. What are we doing here??” added a third.

“A gritty team would have ran it 50 yards the other way first so they felt like they earned something instead of this gift wrapped TD,” continued a fourth.
You have to believe that this play was likely the nail in the coffin that deflated the spirits of all the Murphy players.
Murphy High School Panthers are 0-5
Based on that video, it might not come as too big of a surprise that the Murphy Panthers have opened the season 0-5.
Their closest game was a 6-12 loss to the Blount Leopards, who at least sport a win on their resume at 1-3.
In back-to-back games, Murphy has allowed at least 40 points and is now ranked as the 169th-best high school team in Alabama.
