After A Long Wait, We Finally Have Our Most In-Depth Injury Update On Chiefs Star WR Rashee Rice, Which Includes Both Good & Bad News

Andy Reid speaking to Rashee Rice

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid provided an update of sorts on wide receiver Rashee Rice following the second-year player sustaining a devastating knee injury during KC’s win against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

The reigning Super Bowl Champions moved to 4-0 for the season with a 17-10 win over Jim Harbaugh’s side on the day, but it came at a cost as they would lose Rice on the back of a collision with teammate Patrick Mahomes.

Reid spoke to reporters in a press conference this Thursday and revealed that team doctors were working to reduce the swelling in the wideout’s knee. While it wasn’t a lot, it’s the most we’ve had on Rashee’s situation in a while.

“As far as the guys not practicing today, Rashee is really the only one,” the head coach said, per AtoZSports. “Rashee’s situation is we’re getting the swelling out of his knee, and then he’s got further tests next week. So (I) really don’t have anything to tell you. From there, we’ll see how these tests go next week and once the swelling is down there.”

Rashee Rice Is Expected To Miss Significant Time

The Chiefs have yet to disclose Rice’s specific injury, leading many to believe that he has dodged the dreadful torn ACL. However, the team has announced that they’re placing their star wideout on injured reserve, meaning he’ll miss at least four games.

That’s the bad news.

The good news is that reports from the Chiefs’ facility earlier today revealed that Rice was actually walking around the building without a limp or the need for crutches.

“I think it’s just wait and see just is where we’re at,” Reid added. “For his sake, we’re really hoping that things work out for the best, but let’s just see where it goes and leave it up to the doctors to see. I’m definitely not a doctor.”

Rice is likely to miss a significant chunk of the season, and Chiefs fans will hope that he doesn’t have to be sidelined for the rest of it.

The WR is expected to see a specialist in Dallas next week to determine the extent of his injury once the swelling has gone down. At that point, we should have a much clearer timeline for Rice’s return to the field.
