On Tuesday, star wide receiver Davante Adams requested a trade, and many initially thought the Dallas Cowboys would be one team interested. However, head coach Mike McCarthy may have put those rumors to rest.

McCarthy coached Adams in Green Bay from 2014 – 2018, and on Wednesday, he spoke to reporters about his former player and the team’s interest in the situation.

“Player acquisition is something that always goes on,” he said. “And I’ve never gotten in the habit of talking about players on other teams because I don’t know if anything good that comes out of that.

“Personally, I have tremendous love and respect for Davante. I got a chance to see him up there in Vegas. Don’t really know exactly what’s going on there. But we do feel very confident with our receiver room,” McCarthy continued.

He also talked about being “comfortable” with where the positional group is and how it will only improve as the year progresses.

“It’s only going to get better,” McCarthy added. “That’s the beauty of if you look at the top connections between quarterbacks and receivers, just you look at Dak and CeeDee as they continue to play year in and year out, those relationships and connections, they take time to develop.”

These comments seem to signify that the Cowboys are effectively out of the Davante Adams sweepstakes.

Mike McCarthy Seeking Fourth Stright Playoff Appearance With Dallas

McCarthy became the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys back in 2020 and had a poor 6-10 record in his first season.

Since then, though, he had led the team to three straight playoff appearances. Last year, in 2023, he would be eliminated in the Wild Card round by his former team, the Packers.
