UPDATE: Cowboys make 4 roster changes; Dalvin Cook remains absent from Cowboys' starting lineup for clash with Pittsburgh Steelers

Dallas Cowboys running back Dalvin Cook is ready for the opportunity to show what he can bring to the offense. But again this week, it’s not happening.

It has been four weeks and we still haven’t had a Dalvin Cook sighting in the Dallas Cowboys backfield…but it’s coming like a freight train.

With the Dallas run game being as expected, there have been calls from the fan base to give Cook a shot because he couldn’t do any worse, right?

Rico Dowdle has already usurped Ezekiel Elliott as the starter but has yet to fully convince, and Deuce Vaughn has been a non-factor, leaving Cook as the only “untried” back for the Cowboys.

And Dalvin is ready.

“I’m just looking forward to bring some excitement to the team,” Cook said. “I feel great, so I’m just looking forward to the opportunity.”

But when does he think that opportunity will come?

“I think I’m right here,” he added. “I prepare well, condition well, I put myself in the position with the opportunity to come to go explode and be me. So just staying patient and just easy selling right now, just waiting on my opportunity.”

With the Cowboys’ run game only posting one 100+ yard game (Week 1 vs. Browns, 102) and struggling to get anything going in the last couple of weeks (totals of 68, 51, and 80), something needs to change.

Is that Cook as a member of the backfield? Nope. Dallas on Saturday executed four roster moves … none of them involving Dalvin. A source tells us that Brandin Cooks (knee) is moving to IR; additionally, Carl Lawson, Nick Vigil and Amani Oruwariye have been elevated to the 53.

In truth, Mike McCarthy‘s offense couldn’t really do any worse than the four-time Pro Bowler, yet for some reason, Dallas seems hesitant to let Dalvin loose. (Our Mike Fisher says it’s simply because the coaching staff, right or wrong, doesn’t think he’s better than the guys on the roster, including Rico Dowdle, Ezekiel Elliott, Deuce Vaughn and Hunter Luepke.

With the Cowboys missing some key stars for the trip to face the Pittsburgh Steelers, maybe the addition of Cook is what this offense needs.

And if this is to be the week we finally see Cook, he’s more than ready for the opportunity.
