Aaron Rodgers Speaks On Conversation He Had With Jets Owner Woody Johnson

The New York Jets’ firing of head coach Robert Saleh came just one day after a meeting between owner Woody Johnson and quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the owner said on Tuesday.

Johnson said he met with Rodgers on Monday night.

On Wednesday afternoon, Aaron Rodgers spoke with Pat McAfee on his show.

Rodgers spoke about his conversation with Jets owner Woody Johnson the night before firing Saleh, but he stated it had more to do with checking on him after he sprained his ankle in Sunday’s loss to the Vikings.

He made it clear that Johnson didn’t say anything about firing Saleh.

“I did talk to Woody. He called me on Monday night. We had a short conversation. He just asked me how I was doing … we talked about the game, how disappointed I was in my performance and how we’re gonna get this thing turned around and we hung up. Woody has no obligation to let me know what his plans are.”

“I just appreciate the call that he was checking on me. It was like a friend call.”

In the end, Aaron Rodgers said he’ll be thinking of Saleh and his family.

“He’s got seven kids, he’s got an incredible wife, and the business of football can be hard,” Rodgers said. “It’s tough on the families, and I’ve gotten to know Robert’s family.”
