With their 30-24 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night, the Chiefs remained the only unbeaten team in the NFL at 8-0. It turned out to be a historic win, as Kansas City now has a new franchise record for most consecutive wins with 14.
Four of those victories came during last season’s playoff run. The streak began last December when the Chiefs beat the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 17. That game was the turning point for K.C.’s 2023 campaign, which culminated to winning a second straight Super Bowl.
The Chiefs have more history making in their eyes as they attempt the first ever three-peat in league history. Before they get to that point, an undefeated regular season is still on the table. It’s still a long road to get there with nine game left to play, but pressure to pull it off will intensify if K.C. can make it to the final quarter of the season still unbeaten.
The Chiefs still have some tough challenges ahead. They have upcoming games against the Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans, who could be two of their top challengers in the AFC. A late season matchup with the 5-3 Los Angeles Chargers won’t be easy, and a Week 17 game against the Steelers in Pittsburgh will be tough.
K.C. also still has two games to play against the Denver Broncos, with the first one coming this Sunday. The 5-4 Broncos have been better than expected and have one of the best defenses in the NFL. If the Chiefs are going to win it all once again, they will certainly have earned it, and it could be their most impressive year in team history.
