Clinton Portis played in the NFL for nine seasons after being drafted by the Denver Broncos in the second round of 2002. He split his NFL career between the aforementioned Broncos and the then-Washington Redskins.
Portis was one of the best players in college football during his time with the Miami Hurricanes, yet his time with the program may not have been entirely his choice. The extremely weird reason is insane.
In three seasons with the Miami squad, Portis saw action in 29 games, where he rushed for 2,523 yards on 440 carries. He also added 20 touchdowns to his impressive college stat line.
While he may have helped them win a national championship in 2001, Portis reportedly didn’t even know he had committed to the team until coaches congratulated him on the decision.

The star running back misunderstood the question and responded “yes” to the Hurricanes player — not realizing that he was actually asking if Portis was “going to come” to Miami and play football.
