Former NFL Star RB Clinton Portis Reveals How Misunderstanding At A Gentlemen’s Club Changed His Football Career Forever

Clinton Portis after a game.

Clinton Portis played in the NFL for nine seasons after being drafted by the Denver Broncos in the second round of 2002. He split his NFL career between the aforementioned Broncos and the then-Washington Redskins.

Portis was one of the best players in college football during his time with the Miami Hurricanes, yet his time with the program may not have been entirely his choice. The extremely weird reason is insane.

In three seasons with the Miami squad, Portis saw action in 29 games, where he rushed for 2,523 yards on 440 carries. He also added 20 touchdowns to his impressive college stat line.

While he may have helped them win a national championship in 2001, Portis reportedly didn’t even know he had committed to the team until coaches congratulated him on the decision.

By answering the question, Portis unknowingly made one of the most hilarious decisions in college football history. The star running back misunderstood the question and responded “yes” to the Hurricanes player — not realizing that he was actually asking if Portis was “going to come” to Miami and play football.

When he returned to the facility the next day, he was confused while coaches were congratulating him because he didn’t remember committing to the university ahead of the meeting.

Portis’ mom was also confused, but eventually, the running back just decided to roll with the decision, and it ultimately became one of the best he’s ever made.
