The Cowboys have been one of the laughing stocks of the the NFL after endless years of underperforming.

Jones would make you think that his team is still one of the premier franchises of the league, but they are far from their previous glory days.

Nearly 30 years have passed since the Cowboys’ last Super Bowl win, and they haven’t even returned to a conference championship game since that Super Bowl run.

Since then it has been preseason hype turned into late-season heartbreak year after year.

The common denominator is Jones.

Jones bought the Cowboys in 1989 from Bum Bright for just $140 million dollars.

At that time the team already had two Super Bowl championships under their belt.

Jones quickly won three more Super Bowls with the Cowboys in 1992, 1993, and 1995. It took him just seven years to collect three trophies.

With that much success in such a short period of time, it must have felt like the Cowboys would have the most Super Bowls in NFL history by the time 2024 rolled around.

Instead, they are stuck at the same number they were at in 1995: five.

Recent years have exposed Jones’ ownership malpractice surrounding the cowboys, showing off why the team hasn’t won a Super Bowl in 30 years.

He refuses to make changes to the coaching staff, he refuses to make major additions to the team, and the NFL Draft has been a consistent disaster for the Cowboys.

Let’s look at the coaching issues first. Head coach Mike McCarthy is currently in his fifth year with the team when he likely should have been fired years ago.

Previous head coach Jason Garrett got 10 years with the team despite only making the playoffs three times in that time period.

The coaching issues stem all the way back to Jones’ Super Bowl years, when he butted heads with Jimmy Johnson after back-to-back Super Bowls, making him walk away from the team after just five years.

Even Super Bowl-winning coach Barry Switzer only stayed with the team for four years after Johnson left.

The Cowboys can never seem to find the right coaching system to bring them back to success in the league.

They also can never seem to properly fill out their roster. This offseason gave fans damning insight into Jones’ malpractice with the roster.

While he did hand out extensions to quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, he made almost no other moves and didn’t get the team any help on offense or defense.

Because of that, the team sits at 3-5 and looks completely lost with no way into the playoffs.

That may seem like a perfect opportunity to sell some pieces to get draft picks and rebuild next year, but instead Jones sent away a fourth-round draft pick for second-year wide receiver Jonathan Mingo, who all signs point towards being a bust.

The Cowboys would very likely be better off with a new owner, but Jones is stubborn and it would be hard to find a buyer wealthy enough to purchase the team.

Jones’ franchise is valued at $11 billion today, and it would take one of the wealthiest people in the world to take over the team.

For now, it appears that Cowboys fans are forced to continue to suffer under the painful tenure of Jerry Jones.
