Terrell Owens’ son, Terique Owens, is bringing his talents back to the West Coast.
Per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the San Francisco 49ers are signing Terique Owens back to their practice squad. Terrell Owens’ NFL career began in the Bay Area, where he played from 1996 to 2003.
The 49ers waived Terique in August after he suffered a fractured right hand. The Missouri State product went unselected in the 2024 NFL Draft, but the 49ers are giving the former Bears standout another chance to prove himself in the pros.
The 25-year-old Terique Owens caught 28 receptions for 528 yards and four touchdowns in his final year at Missouri State. Terrell Owens played his college football for the Chattanooga Mocs.
Terique joins a 2-2 49ers team that’s been hit hard by the injury bug this year. Star running back Christian McCaffrey has yet to suit up this season (Achilles/calf), and it’s unclear when he’ll return. Star wide receiver Deebo Samuel and Pro Bowl tight end George Kittle missed Week 3 against the Los Angeles Rams.

On the defensive side of the ball, the 49ers lost superstar defensive tackle Javon Hargrave for the year with a torn triceps. Linebacker Dre Greenlaw also hasn’t played this season as he continues to recover from a torn Achilles he suffered in the Super Bowl 50 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Terrell Owens Is A 49ers Legend
Owens joined the 49ers in 1996 for the final years of their competitive window in the Steve Young-Jerry Rice era. Owens and Rice formed one of the greatest WR tandems in history during their five seasons together.
Owens’ defining moment was his game-winning touchdown pass in the waning seconds of the 49ers’ NFC Wild Card Round victory over the Green Bay Packers. Owens memorably had a tough start to the game with several drops, but his game-winning TD saved the 49ers’ season and ended a streak of three straight playoff losses to the rival Packers.
