A reputable physician has shed some light on Christian McCaffrey’s mysterious trip to Germany amid the running back’s injury woes.
The San Francisco 49ers superstar has traveled to said country to seek help with his Achilles tendon issues, having dealt with tendinitis since training camp and starting the season on the injured reserve.
While this might seem unusual to fans, Dr. Kenton Fibel has explained the decision to the San Francisco Chronicle.
According to Fibel, the trip makes a lot of sense for the RB as he would be able to receive treatment he would not be allowed in the United States, though recent claims of McCaffrey being sidelined for months are said to be false as no updates have emerged since he left.

Dr. Fibel is the medical director of the Anaheim Ducks who also specializes in orthobiologics, which is said to be “a non-surgical field in which stem-cell and platelet-rich plasma injections are used to accelerate healing for a host of injuries that include Achilles tendinitis.”

Dr. Fibel Thinks Christian McCaffrey Has Bigger Problems Than The Niners Are Letting On
While the NFL allows most of Germany’s orthobiologic procedures, the Food and Drug Administration prohibits them.
Still, Fibel suspects McCaffrey could be dealing with something more serious than the Niners are letting on, like microscopic tendon tears.
“Usually whenever you’re having some sort of a biologic procedure for a tendon, particularly an Achilles tendon, typically that’s going to require you to have enough time to rest and protect the tendon after the procedure,” he told the aforementioned publication. “And then start to progress things forward while the tissue has a chance to biologically start to heal and restructure.
“With some of these more important weight-bearing tendons, it’s pretty safe to say that they’re not returning within the first four weeks of the procedure.”
That Christian McCaffrey has had to make the trip to Germany is reason for concern. However, Fibel doesn’t think he will miss the entire season, even if he gets treatment.
