VIDEO: Frigntening Scene As Chaos Erupts During Field Hockey Game At Temple University After Gun Shots Fired

St. Louis and La Salle field hockey players look around during a game.

A field hockey match in Philadelphia between St. Louis and La Salle descended into chaos after gunfire could be heard outside the venue.

Footage from the match could see players on the field as gunfire was heard, which had players, coaches, and officials scrambling for cover.

Players from both teams abandoned their equipment and quickly rushed indoors to avoid getting hit, as everyone was likely confused as to where the shots were coming from.

The game between St. Louis University and La Salle was being played at Howarth Field on the campus of Temple University.

The announcer for the game, which was broadcast on ESPN+, said there were “loud noises” and players began “evacuating” the field.

The video even shows a ref appearing to trip over one of the nets while seeking shelter.

One person could be heard yelling, “Get down right now.”

An update was posted on St. Louis University Field Hockey’s X account explaining that nobody was harmed.

‘Today’s match at La Salle has been called due to a shooting in the vicinity of the field,’ the post read. ‘Everyone is safe.’

You cannot blame anyone for how they reacted since senseless gun violence runs rampant in this country, and nowhere is safe.

Coming into the game, La Salle had a 5-3 overall record. However, they came into the year winning five straight contests, and they were currently in a three-game skid before today.

The previous week, the Explorers went 0-2, including losing their conference opener to Lock Haven 1-0 and then losing to the Temple Owls 4-0.

Saint Louis entered the game with a 1-5 overall record and 0-1 in conference play after losing to the Richmond Spiders 3-1 last week.

Their only victory came last week: a dominant 7-1 win over Frostburg State.

Aside from today’s game, La Salle led the all-time series with St. Louis 14-3 and are coming off of a 6-1 victory over the Billikens last season on the road.
